Route and Camping - South Africa Third Visit


Day 337 - Monday 11th January 2010 CONTINUED

Namibia to South Africa

Daily Route – Namibia to the Noordoewer/ Vioolsdrift crossing down to Springbok and Goegap Reserve.

Camping – Goegap Nature Reserve, Springbok. Lovely site, no electricity but nice ablution block with hot water. Shelter provided for each pitch.

Cost = R15 per person per night

Day 338 - Tuesday 12th January 2010

Trip miles = 29888 miles (47821 km)  Daily miles = 237 miles (379 km)

Daily Route – Springbok down the N7 to Vanrhyndorp, Clanwilliam and into the Cederberg Mountains to Algeria.

Camping – Algeria Campsite, Cederberg Mountains. A pleasant but popular site with a small mountain stream flowing through the middle providing a swimming area. Good ablution block. Electricity.

Cost = unknown (Never found anyone to pay!)

Day 339 - Wednesday 13th January 2010

Daily Route – Algeria through the Cederberg and Matjiesriver Mountains to Ceres, Wellington and to Paarl.

Camping – Berg River Resort Camping, Paarl. A large popular site on the banks of the Berg River. Reasonable ablutions. Electricity.

Cost = R45 per person per night + R30 deposit for ablution key.

Day 340 - Thursday 14th January 2010

Daily Route – Paarl down to Cape Town Airport and Hout Bay and Noordhoek.

Camping – Chapman’s Peak Caravan and Camping, Noordhoek. An unusual site with many quirky touches. Reasonable ablutions. Electricity.

Cost = R70 per person per night + R50 deposit gate key.

Day 345 - Tuesday 19th January 2010

Daily Route – Hout Bay to Simons Town and around to Kogelbaii.

Camping – Kogelbaii Caravan Park, Kogelbaii. A fairly large site but quiet, set along the beach on False Bay. Good ablution block. No electricity on our pitch, others did.

Cost – R70 for pitch for up to four persons.

Day 346 - Wednesday 20th January 2010

Daily Route – Kogelbaii, Bettys Bay to Hermanus and Gansbaii.

Camping – Gansbaii Caravan and Camping, Gansbaii. A fairly small site with small pitches next to the sea near the harbour. Ideally suited for an early shark diving boat trip. Reasonable ablutions. Electricity.

Cost – R100 for pitch.

Day 347 - Thursday 21st January 2010

Daily Route – Gansbaii to Voëlvlei and down to L’Agulhas

Camping – Agulhas Camping, L’Agulhas. A fairly large municipal site in the middle of the town but very quiet. Close to the sea. Reasonable ablutions. Electricity.

Camping – Swartvlei Camping near Sedgefield. A large and popular site on the Swart River. Good ablutions. Electricity.

Cost – R183 for the pitch.

Daily Route – Swatvlei near Sedgefield to Plettenberg Bay, Uitenhage, Addo town to Coerney.

Camping – Homestead Camping, near Addo Reserve. A small but very pleasant site convenient for Addo Reserve. Good ablutions. Electricity.

Cost – R180 for the pitch.

Camping – Addo Main Camp. A fairly small but popular site with fairly small pitches. Restaurant and bar nearby plus waterhole. Good ablutions. Electricity.

Cost – R150 for the pitch and 2 adults + R50 per extra adult.

Day 352 - Tuesday 26th January 2010

Daily Route – Addo Elephant Reserve to Port Elizabeth and Stormsriver.

Camping – Stormsriver Mouth Rest Camp, Tsitsikamma National Park. A very nice but popular site right down on the coast at the bottom of the cliffs. Restaurant and bar at the far end of the long site. Good ablution block. Electricity.

Cost – R220 per pitch and two adults + R48 per additional adult per night.

Camping – Riversdale Municipal Campsite. A reasonable site with some chalets occupied by overnighting workers. Small ablution block shared with the chalets so busy. Electricity.

Day 355 - Friday 29th January 2010

Daily Route – Riversdale to Swellendam and to Caledon.

Camping – Voorhoede Camping, near Caledon. A farm site with the camp set amongst a large wood. Isolated and quiet. Good ablution block with a single hot shower. No electricity.
